Police in Waukegan, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago, arrested two teens Thursday in connection with the May 8 shooting death of a first-year volleyball coach at Waukegan High School, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Niolis Collazo, 23, was a standout volleyball player at the high school and was nearing the end of her first year as a boys’ volleyball coach, having returned to the school after completing her undergraduate degree.
On the night she was shot, she was returning from dinner with friends. At about 10:30 PM, a car allegedly occupied by the suspects pursued her. Shots were fired, striking her and another person. Collazo was transported to a local hospital, where she died of gunshot wounds.
ABC 7 Chicago reported that the entire incident was captured on video. The two teens, identified as Yahir Torrecilla, 17, and David DeJesus, 16, were charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting and are being held in lieu of a $5 million bond.
