The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has added a few lessons to its website for elementary and middle school, lessons the department says are aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards.
Teachers and other interested individuals should plan to visit the page regularly. It’s still largely under construction, and new lessons are being added as they’re developed. The latest group of lessons includes
- Mammals for kindergarten (here and here), first, second, and third grades
- Fossils for grade 3, grade 4, and middle school
- Trees for first grade
- Genetics lessons for high school about a disease in white-tailed deer
The site also has lessons correlated to the newly revised Illinois Early Learning Standards, for pre-K and kindergarten, at the bottom.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources offers several classroom resources for teachers, including the 16th annual Maryland Bay Game (PDF). The department also provides professional development for teachers, especially in environmental education. However, no reference is made yet, on the website, to the Next Generation Science Standards.
