The Catholic Diocese of Rockford fired the superintendent of Marian Central Catholic High School, Andy Edmondson, on August 12 based on allegations of inappropriate conduct, My Suburban Life reports. The co-ed Catholic high school is in Woodstock, Illinois.

“We had been alerted of some allegations that he had engaged in verbal communication with students and faculty that was inconsistent with professional standards at Marian,” the paper quoted Penny Wiegert, director of communications for the diocese, as saying.
The school served 689 students in the 2015-16 school year, and no further details about Mr Edmonson’s dismissal were available. He began working in the diocese only last summer after leaving a similar position at Newman Central Catholic High School in Sterling.
Until a permanent replacement can be found, Rev Thomas Doyle, who now serves as Marian’s spiritual director and assistant principal, will be the interim superintendent.
New principals at Rockford Catholic schools
Seventeen Catholic parishes can be found in the Diocese of Rockford. And as the new school year begins, several new people have moved into the principal slots at the schools, including the two high school appointments below, according to The Observer, the diocese’s official newspaper:
- Thomas Choice has been selected to be Rosary High School’s first president. The school is in Aurora. Dr Choice retired in December from his position at Kishwaukee College in Malta and served on the board of directors for Rosary, an all-girls school, during the 2015-16 school year.
- Barbara Villont takes on the role of superintendent and principal at St Edward Central Catholic High School in Elgin, beginning this fall. She has worked at Marian Central as a technology director and as a member of the administrative team, culminating in her role as principal from 2014 through last school year.
