A typhoon has caused massive damage and loss of life in southeast China, the British Broadcasting Corporation is reporting. Over a million residents were evacuated before the storm hit, but only treetops are visible, according to reports. The storm claimed three lives in Taiwan, where it caused some of the worst flooding in 50 years.

Before Typhoon Morakot went to China, it hit Taiwan. The storms there have now triggered a massive mudslide that buried an entire village, the British Broadcasting Corporation is reporting. Hundreds of people are said to be missing.
