A campus police officer shot a student yesterday at a Nevada high school, FOX News reports. The 14-year-old student was taken to a local hospital and listed in critical condition as of Wednesday evening.
Other news reports say the injured student at Hug High School had a knife, and the Reno Gazette-Journal reported that it had seen video footage showing the student wielding a knife before being shot.
A statement from the Washoe County Schools said the situation was stabilized quickly and students were being dismissed to go home shortly after about 11:30 AM, when the shooting was reported.

The knife may have been pulled out after a fight broke out between the injured student and another student or other students at the high school, but those reports are based on eyewitness accounts provided by students who say they witnessed the events unfold.
The Reno Police Department is the primary investigating agency, and neither the injured student’s identity nor the motives for brandishing a knife were immediately reported.
Hug High School opened in 1968 on the north side of Reno and is named after a former federal judge who was once the superintendent for Washoe County Schools: Procter Ralph Hug Jr. The school serves about 1,350 students, about 85 percent of whom are identified as minorities. It’s one of 19 high schools in the Washoe County School District.
