A former elementary school teacher from Oklahoma and Texas, whose behavior as a teacher has been described as “eerie,” has been charged with two counts of capital murder in Arkansas, KFOR-TV (NBC affiliate, Oklahoma City) reports.
Andrew McGann, 28, was arrested while getting a haircut at a West Fork, Arkansas, salon. Police say he’s allegedly behind the killings of Clinton and Cristen Blink at Devil’s Den State Park over the weekend. Col Mike Hagar with the Arkansas State Police said Thursday that McGann admitted to killing the married couple, according to a report on 40/29 News.
Before coming to Arkansas, McGann taught in the Broken Arrow community outside Oklahoma City and at Donald Elementary in Flower Mound, Texas.
“It shook me … like that’s McGann, that’s the guy that my kid was around every week at school,” KFOR quoted Lindsay Polyak, a parent of one of McGann’s students at Donald Elementary, as saying. She described him as a “sick pervert … I heard from my son that there were girls that Mr. McGann would tickle.
“I started hearing other things from parents whose kids were in his classroom full time, alleging that during lunch time, when all the kids went to the cafeteria, he would invite special girls to stay back and to have lunch with him in his classroom.”
Another Texas parent told the station she had reported McGann’s behavior to both the Texas school district and the staff at Donald Elementary. He was placed on administrative leave but not actually terminated by the Texas district.
“Everything just kind of got swept under the rug,” the parent said about her reports of McGann’s behavior to school authorities.
