Ryerson Beabout reported in the student newspaper at Palestine High School in Robinson, Illinois, that “Bill Nye,” who “taught generations that math and science could be fun” on his television series that ran in the late 1990s, was honored last week with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
On September 22, 2025, Mr Nye became the 2,821st recipient and was inducted in the Television category. The unveiling took place at 6357 Hollywood Boulevard, with a ceremony emceed by Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President Steve Nissen and including speeches NBA star Jaylen Brown and comedian Ross Shafer.
Mr Nye — best known as “Bill Nye the Science Guy” — reflected with gratitude on his decades-long career combining science, education, and entertainment. In remarks following the ceremony, he described the honor as a recognition by his peers and expressed deep appreciation for those who supported his mission to make science accessible and engaging.
This accolade highlights the cultural significance of science communication in mainstream media. While stars on the Walk of Fame typically celebrate actors and entertainers, Mr Nye’s induction highlights how educational television and the bridging of science and popular culture have earned a place in this storied institution.
