Billed as one of America’s largest free outdoor arts festivals, Artscape has been bringing creative vibes to Baltimore since 1982.
Although there have been a few cancellations, Sheila E. is still expected to perform this evening on the festival’s main stage. The festival runs through Sunday.
Sponsored by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, the festival features “artists, live concerts, visual arts experiences, performances, fashion showcases, family-friendly activities, films, experimental tunes, improv, comedy, literary delights, and tasty treats.”
A few blocks from the main stage, “Kidscape” welcomed children through 12 years old with face painting, arts and crafts by very young artists, the bookmobile from the Baltimore City Public Schools aside a booth from the Enoch Pratt Free Library, and a table for kids to create their own projects.
Two very popular booths at Kidscape were from the Baltimore Gamer Symphony Orchestra and the Maryland STEM Festival.
The STEM Festival, which runs from October 18 to November 7 this fall and is titled “Engineering: Ideas to Reality,” is celebrating its 10th year and expects over 350 events highlighting many areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
A popular booth for adults was the “Female Power Project,” where one could find prints with Kamala Harris, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and other female leaders. It would be unlikely to find prints of more conservative politicians at a festival such as this, but conversations at the booth reflected optimism about Ms Harris’s chances in November.
