High school start times in Md. may be changing

-

High school students in Maryland could soon be starting high school a little later and getting a little more time for sleep.

Gov Martin O’Malley signed legislation that requests a report from the Office of Public Health Services to determine the best times for Maryland students to start their day, NBC Washington reports. The report is due by Dec 31.

Some districts have already been considering pushing start times for high school later in the morning. Districts like Anne Arundel County, where high schools begin their mornings at 7:17, and Montgomery County, where high schools begin at 7:25, have already been considering adjustments. But if the governor gets a favorable report here, the state could impose a start time of 8 AM.
