Italians convict American student of murder

An Italian judy found Amanda Knox, 22, an American exchange student from Seattle, guilty of murder, the New York Times reports.

In closing arguments, the prosecutor described her as a “dirty-minded she-devil.” What is surprising is that she was convicted mostly on the basis of rumor and inuendo. There was absolutely no physical evidence linking her to the crime, which led a New York Times opinion writer to wonder, What century are we in?
