Rose Parade Honor Band members

-

Indianapolis-based Music for All has announced most of the high school musicians, from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, who will participate in the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif., as members of the Bands of America Honor Band. This happens only once every four years!

Thirteen Illinois students have been selected

  • Rachel Anderson – Lincoln-Way North H.S., Frankfort, IL (Flute)
  • Aaron Beavers – Murphysboro H.S., Murphysboro, IL (Trumpet)
  • Michael Bockwoldt – Lincoln-Way East H.S., Frankfort, IL (Clarinet)
  • Ellen Chmura – Marian Catholic H.S., Lansing, IL (Mellophone)
  • Zoe Detlaf – Huntley H.S., Huntley, IL (Flute)
  • Rachelle Jacobs – Huntley H.S., Huntley, IL (Flute)
  • Frances Kestel – Lincoln-Way Central H.S., Manhattan, IL (Flute)
  • John Austin Lauer – Morton H.S., Morton, IL (Alto Saxophone)
  • Jeremy Moser – Dunlap H.S., Peoria, IL (Percussion)
  • Donald Renz – Mundelein H.s., Mundelein, IL (Clarinet) — read Daily Herald
  • Rudi Schwerdle – Plainfield North H.S., Plainfield, IL (Trombone)
  • Steven Serette – Dunlap H.S., Dunlap, IL (Percussion)
  • Adam Sundling – Huntley H.S., Lake in the Hills, IL (Trumpet)

And three students from Maryland have been selected

  • Jason Matthews – New Town H.S., Owings Mills, MD (Trombone)
  • Katie Schlueter – Atholton H.S., Laurel, MD (Trombone)
  • Steven Wolf – Atholton H.S., Clarksville, MD (Trombone)

We assume, because many schools on the list are not located in the city listed by Music for All, that the towns refer to the residences of the students. For example, there is no “Atholton High School” in either Clarksville or Laurel, but there’s one in Columbia. We’re trying to sort the details out right now, and if our assumption is incorrect, we’ll issue a correction.

We extend our congratulations to all students! You can view the complete selection, here.

Voxitatis is attempting at this moment to establish fundraising assistance for these fine high school musicians. Stay tuned.
