Latino Art Beat sponsors a student film contest

Latino Art Beat has formed a working collaboration with the 10th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival in Hollywood, Calif., and will sponsor its new film competition category titled “Youth Film Competition 2014.”

This film competition is truly a national competition and is available to ALL students attending a high school or college anywhere in North America! Students must be under 21 years of age, and the films must be original works, with original score, 15 minutes or less. All films should have been made after January 1, 2013. The “Youth Film Competition 2014” category will replace the “Film & Animation” competition category previously offered to Latino Art Beat student filmmakers in participating cities.

ALL entries must be submitted to the 10th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival, Hollywood, Calif., either via Withoutabox or directly to the festival at hollyshorts.com. To submit film entries via Withoutabox, students must go to the Withoutabox website and set-up an account, with a dedicated password, then follow the instructions. To submit directly to the film festival, students should go to the HollyShorts website; go to ‘Submissions’ and download the form (if they are NOT submitting through Withoutabox). Hard-copies of the actual film (DVD) in either instance must be sent to HollyShorts.

The appropriate submission fees can be paid thru Withoutabox (credit card) or directly to the festival by Money Order. NO ENTRIES are to be sent to Latino Art Beat. Withoutabox will confirm entries which students can track through their dedicated account.

This procedure will give all student filmmakers a real-time experience in submitting to an actual high-profile film festival and an opportunity to gain scholarship support and have their winning film screened in HOLLYWOOD!

HollyShorts Film Festival will discount ALL student film submission fees. The entry fees and deadlines for student entries into the Latino Art Beat competition category are as follows:

  • Earlybird deadline was Feb 7
  • Regular deadline: April 11, $25 fee
  • Late deadline: May 23, $35 fee
  • Withoutabox extended deadline: June 6, $40 fee

The “Youth Film Competition 2014” will be broken down into several sub-categories: Live Action, Documentary, PSAs and “My Life” (for Latino student directors only). Future press releases will further define the categories and awards.

The 10th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival will take place in Hollywood from Aug 14 through Aug 23. The Youth category winners will be given a scholarship—the Illinois State Board of Education published that the scholarships for the winners will be for up to $10,000 per year, renewable to $40,000 over four years, at School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Winners’ films will be screened during the festival at the world-famous TCL Chinese Theatre, formerly the Grauman Chinese Theatre, on Hollywood Blvd. Student winners will be flown to the festival courtesy the Southwest Airlines-Latino Art Beat collaboration. Southwest Airlines is “The Official Airline of Latino Art Beat.”
