-

This year in Illinois, 27 varsity football teams finished the regular season undefeated, winning all nine of their games.

Congtratulations to the following teams for turning in an undefeated regular season:

  1. Abingdon
  2. Arcola
  3. Carrollton
  4. Carterville
  5. Cary-Grove in Cary
  6. Christian Life in Rockford
  7. Eastland-Pearl City Coop in Pearl City
  8. Fieldcrest in Minonk
  9. Geneseo
  10. Glenbard West in Glen Ellyn
  11. Greenville
  12. Highland Park
  13. Lemont Township
  14. Maine South in Park Ridge
  15. Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park
  16. Newman Central Catholic in Sterling
  17. Notre Dame in Peoria
  18. Rockford Lutheran in Rockford
  19. Sacred Heart-Griffin in Springfield
  20. South Shore Int’l in Chicago
  21. St. Edward in Elgin
  22. Stark County in Toulon
  23. Stevenson in Lincolnshire
  24. University H.S. in Normal
  25. Uplift in Chicago
  26. Williamsville
  27. Wilmington

All the undefeated won their first round playoff game and are now 10-0 except for South Shore International, which is not eligible for the IHSA playoffs because they play in a conference that does not participate in the IHSA playoffs; Greenville, which was upset in the first round, losing to Bloomington Central Catholic, 68-43; Highland Park, which was upset by Fenwick, 17-10; University High School in Normal, which was upset by Morris in a game played at ISU’s Hancock Stadium, 21-14; and Chicago’s Uplift Community, which lost to Hales Franciscan, 40-6.

Last year, 30 teams finished the regular season undefeated. But unlike last year, the undefeated teams are pretty much evenly divided among the playoff classes: With 26 undefeated teams making the playoffs, 5 are in Class 1A, 3 in 2A, 3 in 3A, 4 in 4A, 3 in 5A, 3 in 6A, 2 in 7A, and 3 in 8A.
