800 students quarantined in Baltimore County

-

Baltimore County Public Schools, which opened on August 30, says that about 800 students and staff are in quarantine due to coming into close contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19, WYPR-Radio (NPR affiliate) reports.

The district hosts about 178 school buildings and serves more than 110,000 students. Of the 173 students who tested positive for Covid-19, more than half attend elementary schools, the station reported.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention define “close contact” as someone who was within six feet for a total of 15 minutes or more within two days prior to illness onset, regardless of whether the contact was wearing a mask.
