Harris accepts Democratic nomination for president

-

Several school newspapers around Chicago have been following and writing about the Democratic National Convention, which wrapped up Thursday evening with Kamala Harris’s speech accepting her party’s nomination for the office of president.

Ms Harris’s acceptance speech started out by opening up to all Americans:

And so, on behalf of the people, on behalf of every American, regardless of party, race, gender, or the language your grandmother speaks — on behalf of my mother, and everyone who has ever set out on their own unlikely journey — on behalf of Americans like the people I grew up with, people who work hard, chase their dreams, and look out for one another — on behalf of everyone whose story could only be written in the greatest nation on Earth, I accept your nomination to be president of the United States of America.

Her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention was a historic moment, The Independent noted, as she became the first woman of color to accept a major party’s presidential nomination.

The speech was well-received, focusing on the dangers of a potential second Trump presidency, emphasizing her commitment to leading the nation with integrity, and drawing a sharp contrast between her vision and that of her opponent. The speech resonated strongly with viewers, achieving higher ratings than Donald Trump’s recent address, particularly in key swing states.
