Maryland tax-free week, Aug. 10-16

-

Today marks the annual start of Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week, a chance for consumers to save on back-to-school essentials and more, the Office of the Comptroller of Maryland promotes in an FAQ-style release. From August 10th through the 16th, qualifying clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less per item will be exempt from the state’s 6% sales tax. The first $40 of a backpack or bookbag purchase will also be tax-free.

While many states do offer these “sales tax holidays,” not all do. Some states don’t have a statewide sales tax at all, making such a holiday unnecessary. Other states simply do not offer them. Additionally, the specific dates, qualifying items, and price limits for these holidays vary greatly from state to state and can change year to year based on legislative action.

Here’s a list of states with confirmed back-to-school tax-free holidays for the summer of 2025, along with details on what is included and links to official resources.
