Both sides in negotiations in Champaign, Ill., had filed final offers with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board, which could have led to a teacher strike, but teachers ratified a new contract yesterday, ending the threat of a strike this year, the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette reports.
“Both sides had some work to do and we worked until we came to resolution,” the paper quoted Champaign Federation of Teachers President Cathy Mannen as saying last week during negotiations. “That was the ultimate goal.”
The school board will officially vote on the new contract Monday, but approval is expected. After that vote, the News-Gazette will probably be able to provide more details about the terms in the contract, but until then, it appears to be inaccessible to the public or to the teachers.
