Roblox finds itself in crisis, its reputation battered by community rebellion, governmental lawsuits, and media investigations. As safety watchdogs become more vocal and legal pressure increases, the platform’s ability to effectively self-regulate is being tested more than ever.

In early August 2025, Roblox issued a cease-and-desist letter to YouTuber Schlep, a content creator known for conducting sting operations that exposed alleged child predators on the platform. His work reportedly led to six arrests.
Roblox banned Schlep’s accounts, accusing him of violating its “vigilante groups” policy and creating an unsafe environment. In response, Schlep announced plans to countersue the company. The community backlash was swift: multiple creators exited Roblox’s content programs, trending hashtags like #freeschlep emerged, and public protests, including by other influencers, demanded accountability and transparency.
On August 14–15, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill filed a lawsuit against Roblox, according to The Washington Post. The lawsuit alleges that the platform had become “the perfect place for pedophiles” by prioritizing growth and profit over child safety. The suit highlights Roblox’s failure to implement basic protections including age verification and parental consent. Evidence lists disturbing examples of explicit environments and predator activity. Around the same time, families across several states, including a North Carolina mother, filed their own lawsuits, claiming Roblox enabled sexual exploitation of minors.
The crisis drew wider media scrutiny. Chris Hansen, known for To Catch a Predator, announced a documentary investigation into Roblox’s role in child exploitation, teaming up with Schlep. Under pressure, Roblox introduced policy changes banning sexual or even implicitly sexual content and restricting access to private virtual spaces (like bedrooms and bathrooms) to users aged 17+ via age verification, PC Gamer reported.
Despite these steps, criticism remains that the response is too slow. Financial fallout is mounting, with Roblox’s market value dropping over $10–12 billion and its stock falling more than 11%.
