Official summaries posted by Evergreen Park District 124 on its website suggest teachers in the K-8 district may be headed for a strike. The earliest date for a strike would be Sept. 28, the district estimates, but no final offers have been published as of this writing.

The Chicago Public Schools and Chicago Teachers Union failed to reach an agreement Sunday, hours before a strike deadline of midnight. Chicago Public Schools will therefore be closed tomorrow, except for contingency centers, where students can report.

Host school contingency sites if Chicago teachers strike

The Chicago Public Schools have released a contingency plan to make sure students are accommodated in the event of a teachers strike on Monday. The plan includes 144 "host schools" or "contingency centers" as well as several faith-based organizations, mostly churches.
