7.0-magnitude earthquake devastates Haiti

-

A massive 7.0-magnitude earthquake has struck the Caribbean nation of Haiti. Although reports are still sketchy, due to failed phone lines and other communications, officials fear thousands of people may have died.

The quake at 4:53 p.m., local time, Tuesday, hit south of the capital of Port-au-Prince, leveling the presidential palace and the United Nations headquarters building, among many others, reports said. Many UN personnel have been reported missing in the wake of the catastrophe.

The U.S., the UK, Venezuela, and other nations are getting ready to send aid.
