All quarterfinal games were played yesterday in the Illinois football playoffs, and we reprint below, with modifications, the predictions we made for the winners of each game. We have added the final scores of the games to the table and shown in red those games we called incorrectly based on our mathematical model.

Class 1A Carrollton over Bismarck-Henning, 57%, 26-21 Central-Southeastern over North Greene, 51%, 34-13 Stark County over Forreston, 72%, 19-33 Galena over Lena-Winslow, 85%, 25-22 Class 2A Class 3A Class 4A |
Class 5A Geneseo over Sycamore, 60%, 23-13 Montini over Marian, 55%, 23-13 Sacred Heart-Griffin over Taylorville, 78%, 63-14 Peoria over Morris, 77%, 40-28 Class 6A Class 7A Class 8A |
* The Quad-City Times reports the score of the Newman-Byron game as 14-16, while both the IHSA and MaxPreps still had a score of 12-16 as of Sunday morning. The Times reported an intentional safety by Byron and then a punt late in the game, but MaxPreps doesn’t have that. We’ll keep checking and make any corrections. The game was still an upset and still one we missed, whether it was by 4 points or 2.
Of the 32 playoff games, we called 24 correctly and eight incorrectly for a percentage of 75 percent, which is pretty good for the playoffs. We have readjusted our algorithms to take into account the actual scores in the quarterfinal round. We’ll post our predictions late Monday, following IHSA’s official posting of game times and locations for the semifinal round in the IHSA football playoffs.
