10-year-old, hanged in Evanston school bathroom, dies

The Associated Press is reporting (Feb. 4, 2009) that a 10-year-old boy has died after officials at Oakton Elementary School in Evanston found him Tuesday afternoon. He was found hanging from a hook in one of the school’s bathrooms.

Update: Feb. 5, 2009: Ruled a suicide

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Aquan Lewis’s death in the above incident has been ruled a suicide. His mother doesn’t believe he killed himself, the Tribune reported, but other witnesses say he did threaten to kill himself after a teacher at the school scolded him.
