“It is frustrating for all of us, but the tragedy of it is a 15-year-old young man is fighting for his life when he should be out playing, but is instead dealing with gunshot wounds,” Baltimore Police Chief Richard Worley said at a news conference.
The shooter is still at large, although Chief Worley said they would be found, as there was ample surveillance video and several witnesses around the shooting.
Police responded to the scene after receiving a ShotSpotter alert, the Banner reported.
The National Academy Foundation is a middle and high school in East Baltimore that serves about 830 students. Students enroll by choice in this targeted Title I school. Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, where the victim is a student, serves about 1,067 students. Both schools, which are in the vicinity of the shooting, will be closed on Tuesday, and counseling will be provided.
