Showcase your patriotism and claim a scholarship!

-

Are you a high school student with a passion for your country and a powerful message to share? Now’s your moment. The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) invites students in grades 9–12 to participate in the Voice of Democracy audio-essay scholarship contest and compete for more than just prizes. You’ll be competing to have your voice heard.

This year’s theme (“How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?”) challenges you to reflect on your daily actions, your values, and how you express love for your nation. From local VFW Posts all the way to the national stage, this competition has inspired creative, powerful messages since 1947.

Entering is as meaningful as the message itself. You’ll write and record a 3–5 minute essay in your own voice. No AI allowed. Write about what patriotism means to you. You’ll then submit that audio recording, a typed transcript, and the official entry form to your local VFW Post by midnight, October 31, 2025.

If your local post accepts digital uploads or in-person submissions, be sure to verify their process and submit early to avoid any unexpected deadlines.

Aim High, Win Big

What’s at stake? Plenty! At the national level, the coveted first-place winner earns a $35,000 scholarship, directly paid to the college, university, or technical school of their choice. But even before that, there are scholarships awarded at Post, District, and State (Department) levels, many of which include generous financial support and even special experiences like the Founding Forward Spirit of America Youth Leadership trip to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

Every voice matters, and yours could inspire countless others. Begin by visiting the official VFW Youth Scholarships page, where you can find the full 2025–2026 Theme, entry form, and guidelines to submit your audio essay and written transcript. Then reach out to your local VFW Post to confirm submission instructions and get everything ready. Let your voice be heard. Compete, connect, and turn your patriotism into opportunity!
