The Lady Eagles of Tyrone Area High School in Pennsylvania swept the Central Dragons on September 25, improving their volleyball season record to 5-6, reports Amaya Martin in the school’s student newspaper.

Senior libero Abby Anthony notched her 500th career dig during the third set, a milestone that reflects her steady defensive presence since she first stepped onto the varsity court.

Players at the very top of the national and state leaderboards often post eye-popping numbers:

Still, Anthony’s accomplishment remains a mark of distinction.

MaxPreps national season leaders regularly post 600 to 700 digs in a single year, which across four varsity seasons can build toward 1,500 or more. By comparison, Anthony reaching 500 digs early in her senior year shows outstanding consistency, particularly since many players never see enough court time to approach that mark.

Her teammates rallied around her in the moment, recognizing not just the point but the bigger accomplishment.

“I think this game was really good for our confidence going into the rest of the season,” said senior right side Sidney Goodwin. “We really felt like we were working as a team instead of playing individually.”

With Anthony’s reliable back-row defense anchoring the Eagles, the team now moves forward with momentum, confidence, and a celebrated milestone to build on.
